We're helping to raise awareness of LGBT+ during LGBT+ History Month at Iron Mill College with this free public lecture to help to increase the visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (“LGBT+”) people, their history, lives, and their experiences in the curriculum and culture of educational and other institutions, and the wider community.

The workshop will be 1.5 hrs approx, the initial 30-40 minutes will involve a presentation of statistics, a description of current terms, and some of the main issues facing Transgender people.

Followed by a short biography, of the lived experience of being a transgender woman. The second half will be an interactive Q&A session.

Meet Monica Betambeau

My qualifications and motivation for presenting this talk come from the 60 years lived experience of being transgender/genderfluid or two-spirited. How the issue has fundamentally shaped my inner world and how it has impacted on my life, my major life decisions and my understanding of the world. Whilst I'll be coming from a place of my personal lived experience, the material will inform around universal transgender stories and intersect with wider LGBTQ + issues in general.
